IaaS – Infrastructure as a Service
IaaS saves hardware, administration and maintenance costs.
IT Glossary
In brief
Services instead of in-house operation: Cloud computing opens up a multitude of new possibilities to make your company more efficient. Hardware is purchased or rented from a service provider and is also operated by the provider. Via virtualisation, the cloud user gains access to components in order to control data processing themselves and to install operating systems or other software. In short, as a customer, you rent IT infrastructure and its maintenance as a complete package.
This is a list of common services:
IaaS – Infrastructure as a Service
Of course, all these services differ in their function. In addition, they are billed differently. New Media Service will be pleased to support you in choosing suitable services for your company and in deciding on an optimal billing model.

What exactly is IaaS?
As the name suggests, with IaaS infrastructure as a service is offered. This means that the provider supplies computing capacity/storage via the internet, which can be used immediately by the customer. The infrastructure is virtually located in the cloud. Physical servers and entire data centres are thus outsourced. Billing is based only on what is used. This can be scaled relatively flexibly, depending on demand. Hardware administration also rests with the provider and no longer needs to be managed by the company.
What advantages arise with infrastructure as a service?
As physical components are partially outsourced, the costs for hardware, administration and maintenanceare naturally eliminated. Likewise, more physical space is created and can therefore be used for other purposes. Redundancy is created by purchasing additional capacity, which can also be adjusted according to demand (for instance for projects or staff increases). This creates unprecedented flexibility!
An improved resilience results from the provider's extremely large-scale data centres, which would be very expensive in an in-house data centre. The stability and reliability are accordingly increased as well.
Depending on the provider, additional security mechanisms are also offered, which may need to be purchased additionally, but offer a high level of security for your data .
Further advantages are flexibility and scalability: If, for example, larger computing capacities are required at short notice for a project, these can be flexibly acquired. When the project ends, the capacities are simply scaled down again. Or if high performance is required for Big Data analytics, IaaS can also be utilised here. The appropriate processing power is purchased temporarily and is thus more economical than permanently procuring the hardware actually required.
