Hybrid Cloud

Cloud services differ in the way they are provided.

IT Glossary

In brief

Cloud services differ in the way they are provided. Reference is made to public clouds, private clouds, community clouds and hybrid clouds. The type of cloud is determined by the service provider and the target group.

As the name suggests, a hybrid cloud is a hybrid form, combining public and private clouds. A public cloud is offered by a freely accessible provider and allows access for anyone via the internet. In contrast, with a private cloud, the service is operated locally and can, if required, be made accessible only within a company network. With the term hybrid cloud, some data is backed up and processed by cloud providers, while another part remains within the company, for instance, if this is necessary for security reasons.

Naturally, every form of cloud has its advantages and disadvantages. We will be delighted to work with you to determine which type makes the most sense for your company.

What is a hybrid cloud solution

As the name suggests, a hybrid cloud is a hybrid form, namely where the public and private cloud are combined. A public cloud is offered by a freely accessible provider and allows access for anyone via the internet. In contrast, with a private cloud, the service is operated locally and can, if required, also be made accessible only within a company network .

With the term hybrid cloud, some data is backed up and processed by cloud providers, while another part remains within the company, for instance, if this is necessary for security reasons.

Advantages of a hybrid cloud solution

If the cloud is operated outside the company, various administrative tasks and other in-house operational duties are naturally eliminated. Furthermore, the large server landscapes of cloud providers offer far greater and often more cost-effective reliability, which means less work required for backups, for example. However, if workflows critical to data protection need to be mapped, a classification and clean separation of data should be carried out.

Accordingly, off-the-shelf cloud solutions are used for less critical data, whereas other data benefits from higher protection in the private cloud.

In-house administrative effort is thus kept lower than when using a pure public cloud solution, yet combining it with the private cloud offers greater data protection than a public cloud alone.

Hybrid hosting of services such as Office 365 is also a very sensible use case. Here, individual services, such as Microsoft Exchange are no longer operated on-premises, but outsourced to the cloud. This offers the company the advantage of being able to focus more on its core business.
